Machir Bay is Kilchoman Distillery’s flagship peated single malt and a vibrant introduction to the house style. Named after the wild, windswept beach just west of the distillery, this expression is a vatting of whisky matured in both bourbon and sherry casks. The high proportion of ex-bourbon barrels brings bright citrus and vanilla notes, while the sherry influence adds depth, fruit and spice. Bottled at 46%, non chill-filtered and natural in colour, Machir Bay delivers a distinctive balance of classic Islay peat smoke, coastal character and fresh floral complexity.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Lemon zest, vanilla and distinct coastal influence give way to floral intensity, juicy peaches, pears and wafts of rich spices.

Palate: Bursts of tropical fruit and dried sultanas, warming smoke and waves of honey, malt, butterscotch and rich sweetness.

Finish: Sherry-soaked fruit, cracked black pepper and sea salt. Long-lasting with layers of citrus sweetness and maritime peat smoke.

About the Distillery:

Founded in 2005, Kilchoman Distillery is an independent, family-owned farm distillery located on the west coast of Islay. Uniquely, Kilchoman grows a portion of its own barley, malts it on traditional floor maltings and carries out every stage of production on site, from mash to bottling. The celebrated “100% Islay” releases use only barley grown on the farm, showcasing a true grain-to-glass Islay whisky with full island provenance.
