Loch Gorm 2022 Edition is Kilchoman Distillery’s flagship sherry-matured release, named after the dark, peaty loch that lies close to the distillery on Islay’s rugged west coast. Fully matured in Oloroso sherry butts sourced from Bodega Jose y Miguel Martin and aged for a minimum of eight years, this edition brings together 22 carefully selected casks — 20 fresh and 2 refill — to create a whisky of deep colour, rich dried-fruit sweetness and layered peat smoke. Bottled at 46%, non chill-filtered and natural in colour, it delivers a powerful yet beautifully balanced Islay single malt where sherry richness and maritime smoke work in perfect harmony.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Intense sweet pipe smoke, followed by waves of freshly cut strawberries and candied lemon peel. Lighter notes of Neroli (orange blossoms), soft toffee and cloves.

Palate: An initial note of dark chocolate and toasted walnuts, gentle tobacco smokiness, hints of caramel and dates accompanied by subtle warming peat smoke. A sweetness lies beneath the spice and the layer of sweet smoke adds intensity.

Finish: Long and evolving with cinnamon and liquorice wood, chocolate bitters and lingering earthy smoke.

Founded in 2005, Kilchoman Distillery is an independent, family-owned farm distillery located on the west coast of Islay. Uniquely, Kilchoman grows a portion of its own barley, malts it on traditional floor maltings and carries out every stage of production on site, from mash to bottling. The celebrated “100% Islay” releases use only barley grown on the farm, showcasing a true grain-to-glass Islay whisky with full island provenance.
