Ardnamurchan AD The Midgie (2025 Release) is a playful, characterful Highland single malt created in honour of Scotland’s smallest and most infamous summer nuisance, the Highland midge. This second seasonal release brings together 75% unpeated and 25% peated spirit, matured in a carefully judged mix of ex-bourbon barrels (50%), Port barriques (48%) and a bright touch of sherry casks (2%). Bottled at 48%, non chill-filtered and natural in colour, The Midgie 2025 combines sweet red fruit, coastal salinity and gentle smoke in a vibrant, modern Ardnamurchan style that’s made for sharing and summer sipping.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Savoury notes of gammon ham and torched pineapple lead, with prunes dusted in salt. Strawberry jam on a salty cracker, almond oil, coconut macaroon and a hint of spearmint bring a sweet, playful lift.

Palate: Salt-baked pear, meadowsweet and wildflowers give a fresh, herbal start, joined by lemon thyme, sultanas and cherrywood embers. Cocoa powder and pink peppercorns add depth, warmth and gentle spice, wrapped in soft, coastal smoke.

Finish: A gentle puff of buoyant smoke lingers with Himalayan pink salt, redcurrant cordial and a constant interplay of sweet and salty notes. Dry, lengthy and moreish.

About the Distillery:

Ardnamurchan Distillery, located at Glenbeg on the remote Ardnamurchan peninsula in the Western Highlands, began production in 2014 and is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s “greenest” distilleries. Powered by local renewable energy and drawing water from nearby springs, the distillery produces both peated and unpeated spirit, matured on site in a carefully selected mix of bourbon, sherry and specialty casks.
