Aberfeldy 16 Year Old is a richly sherried interpretation of “The Golden Dram”, bringing extra depth and indulgence to the distillery’s classic honeyed Highland style. Matured in a combination of first-fill, refill and re-char bourbon casks and then finished for six months in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, this 16-year-old layers vibrant honey and citrus with sherried fruitcake, warm spice and dark chocolate. Bottled at 40%, it’s a smooth, elegant dram that shines as an after-dinner whisky or a cosy evening sipper.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Honey and bright citrus peel at first, followed by notes of sherried fruitcake, soft dried fruits and gentle baking spice. Hints of cloves, dark chocolate and toasted oak emerge with time in the glass.

Palate: Silky and mouth-coating. Honey, citrus and spicy cloves lead the way, supported by rich sherried fruitcake, dried fruits and toffee. Layers of dark chocolate and a touch of roasted nuts develop, giving depth and a satisfying richness.

Finish: Long and warming, with lingering chocolate, dried fruit, gentle oak spice and a honeyed, mouth-coating finish.

About the Distillery:

Aberfeldy Distillery was built by John Dewar & Sons in 1896 on the outskirts of the town of Aberfeldy in Perthshire, drawing its water from the nearby Pitilie Burn, famed for its deposits of alluvial gold. Originally created as the heart of Dewar’s blended Scotch, Aberfeldy has since earned a strong reputation as a single malt in its own right. Known as “The Golden Dram”, Aberfeldy is celebrated for its honeyed, fruit-forward character, typically developed through maturation in a variety of cask types that bring notes of orange, honey, vanilla and gentle spice, with a soft, approachable profile that still offers plenty of Highland character.
